About Fred Yan

Fred graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Ballet. Fred started his ballet training at the Hong Kong Youth Ballet Academy at the age of 15. He received a scholarship in the Asian Grand Prix International Ballet Competition to start his professional dance training in the HKAPA.

Fred is the recipient of the HKAPA Dean of Dance Prize and Ballet Faculty Scholarship. He was awarded the 3rd place of the pas de deux section in the Miami International Dance Competition. Fred has worked with various renowned choreographers in the academy, such as Septime Webre, Anh Ngoc Nguyen, Yuri Ng, Kinsun Chan, Raymond Chai, and Johnathon. He performed the leading role in “Till We Meet Again”, choreographed by Anh Ngoc Nguyen, in his graduation performance.

Fred is passionate about dance education, he studied Dance Pedagogy and Dance Practicum during his study. He was the assistant teacher of dance improvisation in the BFA program of HKAPA and GYDP program as well as the teacher of dance workshop in the Diploma program of HKAPA. After graduation, he became a ballet teacher at various dance schools and possesses a wealth of teaching experience.

Fred is actively involved in choreography, his creation includes “Illusion”, “Out of the List”, “Y” and “Restlessness”. “Restlessness” is selected for the final in the Seoul International Dance Competition choreography section.
